Supporting The Three

SUPPORTING the THREE

I am the Infantry, follow me.

not a foot soldier, we’re much more you see.

We’ll take the fight to the enemy.

I am the Infantry, the first of the three.

I am the Cavalry, follow me.

A modern horse soldier in an APC.

Charging straight forward to the enemy.

I am the Cav, most daring of the three.

I am the Armor, follow me.

The arm of decision I’ll always be.

When the going gets rough, call on me.

I am the Armor, the best of the three.

Armor, Cav, and Infantry

rush headlong into the melee.

Braking the lines like an angry sea

deep into enemy territory.

Approaching a crossroads, what do we see?

The area secured by two lonely MPs

Directing us forward, how can this be?

How long have they been waiting for me?

What a crazy person an MP must be.

He has no firepower or armor like me.

And I thought everyone followed the three

Armor, Cav, and Infantry.

I am the MP, don’t follow me.

You don’t want to be where I will be.

Guarding the crossroads, waiting for the three.

Just my partner, an M16, a 240 and me.

With the objective taken, wait and see.

No one will remember the lonely MP

Who held this ground so they could run free,

But that’s my job, supporting the three.

My story is probably a little bit different than some of the other girlfriends or wives on here, as I am no longer with my soldier, but we remain close friends, and meeting and being with him is how I came up with the idea of starting an organization that not only supports our troops through ‘Adopt a Soldier’ program, which is coming soon. But, I want to be involved in supporting our soldier’s families and friends at home by working with Operation: Home Front and Team USO. As well as serving as a small support system for our members who have loved ones serving.

In March of 2010, I met Aaron at a college ministry class at church. I was new there and didn’t really know anyone and I was kind of instantly drawn to Aaron because of his crazy sense of humor. We became friends pretty quickly and kept the friendship going through facebook and text message for a couple of months while he was away at MP school and later training. When he got back was really when we got close. He started working with my dad’s youth group helping teach and mentor the kids and went on the summer trip with us. Around the same time, he started dating one of my good friends, but broke up soon after. When we started dating, talk of the Army came up pretty soon. He was gone 1 weekend a month, every month and the thought of deployment was always in the back of my mind. Decisions about re enlisting came up and how we would handle deployment, how I would handle it. I made so many new friends by joining a support group for Military girlfriends and wives and I got some really good advice from all the women. We decided to take a break for a little bit, and ended up getting back together a month later, but eventually we just decided that it would be best for both of us to be friends and it worked so well as best friends before. He left for a couple of weeks to help train other soldiers and in June found out that he was being deployed for the first time. The Army was a big part of our relationship and now our friendship. I am so proud of him and all he has done and is doing with the Army. It’s not easy on this side or on his side, but I will always support him because he’s so stinkin’ good at what he does. On July 19, he left was deployed. he’ll be gone for a year or so, we’re not really sure, and it’s not easy. It’s tough, it’s a struggle. After I found out about his deployment I became very interested in how I could support him and encourage his as his friend and I started researching and became very curious about not just supporting him, but all our men and women and uniform. I recruited the help of some girlfriends and wives who are currently dealing with deployment and decided to start my own organization called ‘Operation: Support’. It started out as an idea of having girlfriends, wives, friends, and family get together to volunteer with other major organizations like operation Home Front and just serving where we could. That idea eventually escalated into the idea of ‘Adopt a Soldier’ with families ‘adopting’ soldiers to send them cards, letters, and even care packages through us. We also recently joined Team USO which raises money to do so many different things. (You can find out more here:

I am so excited to do what I can to give back to our troops and their families because they really do sacrifice so much.
